Food is on my mind a lot when traveling. Having celiac disease has forced me to think ahead about what I will be able to eat at my destination and on the way to my destination. I pack food now, just in case I can not find anything safe for me to eat. I would rather eat food I know is safe, so I do not have to worry about getting sick.
During my husband and I's recent trip to Florida we decided to visit Sea World. We knew we wanted to spend the whole day there, and bringing in your own food is not allowed. I had thought about bringing a doctor's note and asking if I could, but I just ran out of time. They do have gluten free dining options, so I am not sure a doctor's note would have helped. We considered the all day dining option, but with my dietary restrictions we chose just to do lunch and then buy waters throughout the day.
I did some research ahead of time to see what Sea World had to offer as far as gluten free dining options. There was not a lot of information out there, but I had read Sea World did have a designated restaurant that it recommended as the "best fit" for people with allergies. This was Shark's Underwater Grill. We went there first and checked the menu. It was all very expensive and fancy fish dishes. I was not in the mood for fish, so we back tracked to the Waterfront's Spice Mill Restaurant, which we had passed on the way to Shark's Underwater Grill. The Spice Mill served burgers and fries.

We got to the Spice Mill right after it had opened. This was perfect because, I was able to ask one of the ladies making burgers if they had gluten free buns. She said they did. I then asked her to change her gloves before making my sandwich, because of cross contamination. She told me that a manager would actually make my burger, and he would come out to speak with me. He came out, and I ordered a cheeseburger with a gluten free bun. I also asked, if the fries were fried in a fryer with non-gluten free items. He let me know they were fried in a designated gluten free fryer. He told me to go ahead and have a seat and he would bring it out. I grabbed my drink, and my husband already had his meal so we sat down. It took a while for the manager to bring out my burger and fries. My husband was pretty much done eating, but we were not in a hurry, so I did not mind at all since it seemed like my food would be safe for me to eat. I had ordered and paid for a single cheeseburger, but he brought me a double cheeseburger. I would recommend a single patty, because the gluten free bun fell apart on me, and it became messy quickly. The fries were hot. It was a great experience, and I felt the staff had a good knowledge on celiac disease. Best of all I did not get sick!!!!! I highly recommend this place! The earlier you go the better, so they can take the time to talk to you, and you can ask them questions without it being too noisy or feeling rushed.

The restaurant is cafeteria style, but if you let them know you need a gluten free bun. they will get a manager for you.
